Change to student travel awards
Dear Division 54 Student Members,
I wanted to let you know of a big change that we made to the student travel awards to SPPAC this next year. In order to make the awards more accessible to everyone and to reduce reviewer burden, we now are going to streamline the application process and make the travel award submissions simultaneous with conference abstract submissions. This means that when you submit your abstract to SPPAC, you will have the option of selecting whether the first author is a student and if that student would like to be considered for a travel award. It will prompt you for more information about the student status and information. The awards will then be distributed based on conference abstract reviewer scores and then a review committee decision to ensure that the awards are fairly distributed and are in line with our mission to promote diversity. Other important information to note:
- There will be 30 awards for $500 each for pre-doctoral students
- There will remain 1 Eugene Walker travel award for $1000 for current post-doctoral fellows
- You will not be eligible for an award if you have received the SPPAC travel award in either of the prior two years
We look forward to seeing applications and anticipate that this process will reduce burden on both students and reviewers and ensure fair distribution of awards. Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.
To make the awards more accessible, you can now apply for the student travel award when you submit your conference abstract! Check out the full announcement in the news section for more info.
